Event Photography: Highland Park Volunteer Appreciation Night

As the late Nate Siegel was quoted as saying, "without volunteers, your property tax would be even higher." It is with that in mind that Highland Park this week honored the scores of people who volunteer their time, talent and strength to provide services that residents rely on. The borough threw a party at the local senior center, complete with performances by members of the grade school, middle school and high school orchestras, award certificates, and a special ceremony honoring borough Chaplain, Rabbi Eliezer Kaminetzky, as Volunteer of the Year.

I was honored to be the event's official photographer. Scroll down for highlights.

Assignment: J-Serve Jewish Teen Volunteer Day

On Sunday, April 19, over 250 teens from Northern New Jersey converged on the massive MetroWest Jewish Federation headquarters in Hanover for a day of volunteer service, workshops and training. It was inspiring to see the dedication of these High School and Middle School kids from a wide range of backgrounds as they attended workshops to learn about Israel advocacy, feeding the hungry, self-defense and handling abusive relationships, LGBT sensitivity, and confronting and understanding antisemitism. Other groups worked with seniors in the adjacent senior housing facility, and with mentally and physically disabled adults in recycling projects and playing sports in the gym.

I was honored to be the official photographer for this event. Photos are below.
