DPS article #2: Using Off-camera Flash to Fix Lighting Problems for Outdoor Portraits

My second article for Digital Photography School, featuring my favorite new model Leanne, has just gone live, about shooting outdoor portraits with a single off-camera flash. Yes, her hair really has a bit of red--no gels were harmed in the making of this iamge.

Check out the article here!

In case you missed it, here's my first article.

Photojournalism: Community-Wide Prayer Gathering For Missing Israeli Teens

This evening, there was a massive prayer gathering for the three missing Israeli boys; Israel accuses Hamas of being responsible for their kidnapping. It is a time of great fear among not just Israelis but Jews worldwide. All over the globe, communities are gathering to pray for their safe return.

In Edison, NJ tonight, hundreds of Jews came together at Rabbi Pesach Raymon Yeshiva to chant Tehilim (Psalms) and pray for the boys' safe return.

At Nechama's Bat Mitzvah, The Dancing Rocked The House

Meet Nechama, whose Bat Mitzvah I photographed a week ago Sunday. Jeff Wilkes was the DJ, and dancing was led by Sarah and Marie, who really got the girls moving.

And since I LOVE photographing the kids dancing, this was a lot of fun and got me to exercise my street photography muscles.

Shout out to Rockys Hair & Makeup for Nechama's beautiful 'do.

Next DPS Article: Behind The Scenes

A quick behind-the-scenes shot for my next article for Digital Photography School. It's going live next week, so stay tuned!

Meanwhile, here's my first article.

Meet Leanne!

Just had a fun shoot with Leanne, an honest-to-goodness beauty queen, at Rutgers Gardens today between the rainstorms, on assignment for a new client (more about that soon!)

Here are a few quick highlights...

It was a fun shoot, Leanne was great to work with, and being a good sport, she didn't even flinch when I asked her do a hair flip!

Mother of the Groom at the Bedeikin

Another photo I shot on my day off. She's been through a lot. It's good to share joy with the family.

I shot the band!

Yesterday I was off duty, attending the wedding of the son of a friend. But as is my habit, I brought my camera and looked for moments that the official photographer couldn't possibly have captured. For instance, while the photographer was a few feet behind me walking backwards down the aisle and the bride and groom were being escorted out of the Shul, I turned around, and caught this moment of Avi Maza and his orchestra playing the musical accompaniment.

Would an official wedding photographer have done this? Probably not--it's not his job. But like I said...I was off duty and free from such constraints.
